Matthew 28:1-3

Now after the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. Suddenly there was a severe earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descending from heaven came and rolled away the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.

COMMENT & QUESTIONS

Who do you think the other Mary was? (See yesterday’s reading and the day before).

The other Mary was mentioned in Matthew 27:56. She is described as being the mother of Joseph and James. We don't know much else about this woman.

What day of the week did these things happen? What day did Jesus die?

Jesus rose on the first day of the week. This is a Sunday. Most commentators believe that Jesus died on the Friday morning.

PRAYERS

Give thanks for the women in the church. Countless times it was the women who showed the most faith and courage in the story of Jesus.
